LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - If you take Interstate 27 to work or back home, you may be detoured on Wednesday. That's after an overnight accident caused some serious damage.
Lubbock Police say the driver of an SUV was headed north on the interstate around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday when she drifted onto the center median. The SUV went between two crash barriers and hit the leg of a massive sign that spans the north bound lanes.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Her name has not been released.
The Texas Department of Transportation says the accident caused about $50,000 worth of damage to the sign, and because of the damage, crews will likely shut down the northbound lanes of I-27 to replace the sign. That could take 8 to 10 hours.
TxDOT has not yet decided on when the repairs will take place. KCBD NewsChannel 11 will let you know as soon as that information is released.
