Update: Remains identified as Peggy Merimon

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Breaking news update from KCBD NewsChannel 11: Family members of Peggy Merimon tell KCBD NewsChannel 11 that the human remains found in northwest Lubbock County on Saturday are those of Peggy Merimon.

A news conference is scheduled today at 2:00 p.m. at the Medical Examiner's Office to verify this information. KCBD NewsChannel 11 will stream this news conference live on kcbd.com and broadcast the news conference live on KCBD NewsChannel 11.

Peggy Merimon went missing on August 9th, 2006 from the Lubbock State School with her co-worker Kay Harrelson. Harrelson's body was found 11 days later, and just 12 miles from where the remains were found on Saturday.

Last year, Mickey Patterson, a co-worker of Harrelson and Merimon was arrested and charged with both women's murders. The trial was expected to start June 1st, and because of the recent developments, it has been postponed.

The District Attorney Matt Powell will not recommend moving Patterson's trial out of Lubbock County. Powell says the request must be made by the defense attorney.

Live coverage will start shortly before 2:00 p.m.
