How does oil spill in the Gulf compare in size to Lubbock?

GULF OF MEXICO (KCBD) - In the Gulf of Mexico, if a 100 ton, four story tall box didn't do the trick what about a six inch wide tube?

Officials for the oil company, British Petroleum, say that's Plan B to try to stop the oil flow from the damaged well. They say they'll place the small tube into the leaking pipe, on the ocean floor, Thursday. The tube will then siphon the oil to a tanker at the surface.

Have you wondered just how large the oil spill is so far?

If you take the size of the spill right now, and put it over the Lubbock area it would stretch from the western edge of Lubbock County to just east of Dickens.

If you include the smaller oil spots that broke away from the main slick, the spill would stretch into eastern New Mexico, north to Tulia, and as far south as Snyder.
