Former O'Donnell principal indicted for sexual assault in Sweetwater

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -  A former South Plains principal stands indicted for sexual assault in Sweetwater.

A Nolan County grand jury indicted 38-year-old Clay Burns for sexual assault of a child, and two counts of indecency with a child. The indictments allege the assaults happened in 2002.

Burns is a former teacher in Sweetwater ISD, and former principal of O'Donnell High School.

Earlier this year, the Texas Education Agency investigated Burns for "educator misconduct."

In February, he voluntarily surrendered his teaching certificate. That means he will never be able to teach in a Texas public school again.
