NORMAN, OK – It was a long day waiting to get the match underway due to the heavy rain, but it was worth the wait as the No. 14 Texas Tech men's tennis team got a 4-0 win over Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Headington Family Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
Tech (22-5) started off the night by winning the doubles point for the 19th time this season with wins at No. 2 and No. 1, respectively over Wichita State (14-9). This caused Garcia to be pulled out of the singles lineup at No. 3. The Red Raiders moved everyone up a spot and inserted David Gonzalez in at No. 6.
The Red Raiders continued to dominate in singles as 37th-ranked Escobar cruised to a 6-0, 6-2, win against Marinescu at No. 2, to give Tech a 2-0 lead. Then came at victory at No. 5 as Raphael Pfister battled back from being down 4-1 in the first set to win 6-4, 6-1, over Matheus Pereira.
