Family Dollar voluntarily recalls toy gun

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Family Dollar Stores are voluntarily recalling their Auto Fire toy target sets after two children died from asphyxiation. The darts that come with the set are soft and if placed in the mouth can be inhaled into the airway preventing the child from breathing.

The dart sets, sold exclusively through Family Dollar Stores, feature a target, eight orange darts, and either an orange and yellow toy gun or a blue and yellow toy gun. The item numbers in question are #P238 and #9328 and can be found on the side of the gun handle in raised lettering. The sets were sold between September 2005 and January 2009.

These toys must be immediately taken from children and either destroyed or returned to Family Dollar for a full refund.

Family Dollar can be contacted at (800) 547-0359 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or via their website at www.familydollar.com.
