List of Lubbock non-profits at risk of losing non-profit status - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A long list of local non-profit organizations has until midnight Monday to file an IRS 990 form or else risk losing non-profit status.
A division of the Urban Institute in Washington D.C. compiled the list. When KCBD NewsChannel 11 did a search of Lubbock County we found 192 organizations that have not filed. However, Urban Institute spokesman Tom Pollak did want to emphasize that his group's records are a month old. So, some of the groups on the list might have actually filed the needed paperwork. Others might not know that it's due.
Some organizations such as Keep Lubbock Beautiful are intentionally not filing a 990. For example, the city of Lubbock says Keep Lubbock Beautiful used to be a 501(c)(3) but is now just a committee of the city council.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 did a little checking. We learned from the United Way of Lubbock that the Urban Institute is right about the May 17th deadline for IRS Form 990. And the United Way also says some of the leaders of local non-profits might not realize there is a deadline. By the way, the United Way is not on the list of those neglected to file for three years in a row, which is the threshold for possibly losing non-profit status.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 spoke with All Saints Episcopal School of Lubbock Inc. The Headmaster Mike Bennett says that he believes the 990 form for his organization is current.
