LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball placed eight student-athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 baseball team that was announced earlier this afternoon by the league office.
Juniors Justin Cooper and Bobby Doran along with senior Bonham Hough and sophomore Scott LeJune were named to the first team while senior Taylor Ashby, freshman Scott Erzinger, junior Nick Popescu, and sophomore Kevin Whitehead earned second team accolades.
There are 43 members total on the first team and 26 members on the second team with Baylor leading the league with nine student-athletes on the first team and one on the second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA. To make the second team, members had maintained a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Along with having to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, players must have also participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests, while pitchers are required to have at least one inning pitched per game played by the team or have appeared in 20 percent of their team's total games.
Each player making the team has been nominated by the director of student-athlete support services as well as the school's media relations office.
The Red Raiders take on Nebraska on Friday at 6:35 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb. in the last Big 12 series before heading into Big 12 Tournament play in Oklahoma City May 26-30.
