Lubbock Residents Walk for Walk America Campaign

Almost one out of every eight babies is born premature in the U.S., and Saturday, Lubbock residents took steps to help the March of Dimes raise money for research and care of premature babies and pregnant mothers.

It's all part of the Walk America Campaign. In it's 33rd year, Walk America has raised more than $1 billion to help save babies from prematurity and birth defects.

On Saturday at Maxey Park, more than 2,000 walkers laced up their shoes to help raise more than $250,000 for March of Dimes. Every cent will stay here on the South Plains to help support local NICU units and fund research to help prevent low birth weight and care for pregnant mothers.
