LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Exercising your brain has become big business with Nintendo games and computer programs all promising to give you the edge to stay sharper long term. Here at the Garrison Institute on Aging, Executive Director Paula Grammas says healthy aging is really easier and less expensive than any high tech help.
"Actual exercise the body is important for exercise the brain, which hopefully everyone will do when they come to Healthy Lubbock Day," said Dr. Grammas. "There's also learning to do new things, taking people out of their comfort zones, doing puzzles, learning a new language, traveling, reading, all these things exercise the brain, you don't have to invest in expensive computer programs, or expensive gaming equipment."
In an effort to fight obesity and promote healthy aging, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is partnering with the city of Lubbock to bring you Healthy Lubbock Day. There will be free screenings and exercise demonstrations, prizes, and fun activities for the whole family. It will be held on June 5th from 9 to noon at Maxey Park.
