Local teachers encouraged to apply for classroom mini-grants

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Area Foundation will award grants to teachers who are faced with keeping children interested and challenged with few resources beyond basic curriculum.

These grants are awarded to area K-12 teachers. These mini-grants also provide a way to recognize and reward outstanding teachers in the South Plains region.

Since it's inception in 1997, Mini-Grants for Teachers has funded 284 projects in 84 schools and 19 South Plains school districts. Thousands of students each year benefit from the Mini-Grants for Teacher program.

Through the Mini-Grants for Teachers program, teachers who have ideas for enriching the curriculum and providing students with innovative learning experiences can apply for grants ranging from $300 - $1,000.

Mini-Grant funding can be used for the purchase of special materials or resources for the classroom that are not available through other funding sources. All South Plains region K-12 teachers from public schools and nonpublic schools recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TEPSAC) and the Commissioner of Education are eligible to apply.

Grant applications are due by June 15th and are available at  www.lubbockareafoundation.org/mini_grants.shtml or by calling the Lubbock Area Foundation at (806)762-8061.
