Veterans to be honored in several local events Monday

LUBBOCK, TX(KCBD)- Memorial Day weekend is upon us and the city is preparing to honor our veterans.

The city will hold it's 8th Annual Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. Monday morning at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Retired Major General Walter Huffman will be the featured speaker. About 1,000 American flags will be placed at the grave sites of veterans.

Later that afternoon, the Veterans Administration will host a dedication ceremony at the cemetery. Local veterans, along with city and county employees, will place dozens of VA headstones at the unmarked graves of veterans with no immediate family. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.

Also on Memorial Day, Resthaven Funeral Home will host a program in honor of Memorial Day at Memorial Park. This is the 62nd Annual Memorial Day Service. It will start at 10 a.m. Resthaven Funeral Home encourages the community to participate in this special event.

Immediately following this event, they are inviting you to join the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Chapel Mausoleum for a Memorial Service honoring those who have given of themselves so others may live in health and happiness through the Willed Body Program.  Resthaven is located at 5740 West 19th Street.
