LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Some folks make a living outside, and right now that means in the sweltering heat. So how do they cope with the rising temperatures?
"Well, it's hot and we have a lot of yards to do In this heat, you have to take care of your body. We are aware of the fact that we have to stay hydrated, so we drink a lot of liquid, water & sports drinks," said Gary Pointer with G&L Lawn Service.
"Man, it gets hot. But we just take as many breaks as we can. If you gotta do a lot of work and you have enough people, alternate, ya know, take breaks. If you're working around fumes with no respirator you can pass out. If you're working by yourself that's even worse. That's a worst case scenario; nobody there to help you," added Ric Gallegos with A&J Paint.
"The best time of the day is the morning. Start early because by three o'clock when the heat is actually beaming real hard. Especially if you're outside, you want to keep yourself hydrated," said Jose Palacio, also with A&J Paint.
"It's impossible to keep going all day in this heat the way we normally would. We've had a lot of 100+ days in June. We've had a cool spring up until now. I guess summer is here," adds Pointer.
