LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - On May 19th Destiny Flores woke up around 6:30 a.m. to the sound of roofers on top of her home. "I came outside to see what was going on. I did not know our roof was going to get ripped off. So I asked the guys on the roof if our landlord was here, and they said no he's on his way," said Flores.

She went back inside, not thinking much of it, but then 4 hours later the roofing company's owner knocked on her door and told her his roofers had accidentally taken the roof off the wrong house. "I gave him my landlord's number. Told him to take care of it," said Flores.

The owner, Jay Madrid with Jay Madrid's Roofing and Remodeling, told her landlord he would fix it that Friday, but he didn't. Then Flores claims he said he would fix it the next Wednesday, then the next week. More than 2 weeks later, there were still no shingles on her roof. "He's told other people that he wasn't going to fix out roof, and he's not answering any of our phone calls," said Flores.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 looked on Madrid's web site, and it has the Better Business Bureau accredited business stamp on it.  However, when you click the BBB logo, it doesn't take you to the their page. The Lubbock BBB tells us that's because they aren't actually accredited. Their report on Madrid's roofing lists is as "out of business" because "the phone number's the BBB had for this company are disconnected, and directory assistance does not have a listing for this company. The BBB's mail to this company has been returned as undeliverable," said the report.

The report also included that, "use of the logo in this way is against BBB policy as it could be construed to mean the company is affiliated in some way with BBB..."

On Friday a different roofing company started putting a new roof on the house at the landlord's expense.  The landlord says he has filed a police report and hopes to recoup that cost later.

We tried to contact Madrid Roofing several times, but they have not returned out calls.
