LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Pain specialists from all over the world will be tuned in to Texas Tech this weekend as the Health Sciences Center hosts its 27th Annual Pain Symposium. Dr. James Heavner, a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, says innovative techniques like spinal cord endoscopy are allowing patients today with unexplained back or leg pain to finally get some answers and the treatment they need. This symposium will help spread the word and the knowledge on how to do that.
"We were the founders of a lot of ways of treating pain and the ways of teaching people, physicians, how to do the treatments," said Dr. Heavner. "It gives us an opportunity to tell the world about what we're doing here and from an innovative point of view and introducing new ways of treating chronic pain and cancer pain."
Texas Tech will use its telemedicine facilities to broadcast part of the pain symposium live this weekend to doctors in the Bahamas even demonstrating some procedures live via satellite.
