LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Nathan and Cheryl Dziuk head to Arnett Elementary School to cast their District 1 ballots. They're among only a handful of eligible voters to do so.
"I just like to speak for myself, I have a voice and I'd like to use it, and I'd like to encourage everybody else to do the same." Nathan Dziuk continued. "It's sad the voting is low this year."
Only one thousand out of fourteen thousand residents of the district voted early. Candidates were both out making final campaigns Saturday. Glen Robertson was doing everything he could to lure voters to the polls.
"6:30 this morning, got out here started putting up signs at all the polling locations and then started making calls and knocking on doors at about 9 o'clock," Robertson said.
Cheryl Dziuk knows things can come down to one vote, and that's why she's out voting on her Saturday. Cheryl said, "There's been times where I thought oh my vote doesn't matter and I think oh all the other people are going to do the right thing. But that's not true."
For the Dziuks it's more than just casting a vote, but also casting an educated one. Nathan thinks it is important voters do their homework before they cast a vote. "A lot of times people have to do their own research and they don't do that, and I think they should and they should come out here and vote," Nathan said.
