LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Victor Hernandez won Saturday's runoff election for Lubbock City Council District 1 against Glen Robertson by a mere ten votes.

Just under 1,500 people cast a ballot. Hernandez took 50.33% of the vote with 762, while Robertson had 49.67% of the vote with 752.

Lubbock County Elections Office reports that the slim difference triggers an automatic recount, but Hernandez is the unofficial winner at this point. "Thank you so much for everyone who did take the time to go out and vote. Obviously, this race shows that every vote does count," Hernandez said.

Glen Robertson says he'll continue to support District 1, but says he's disappointed in the low voter turnout. "You know, we knew it would be extremely close; we were 26 votes behind the first time. We're right at 10% of the registered voters. It's disappointing; I wish we had more people that wanted their voice hear, but end of the day you just have to count the votes of the folks that voted," Robertson said.

The elections office plans to hold the recount on Tuesday.
