LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech first baseman Barrett Barnes continues to compile postseason honors as he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) First-Team Freshman All-America squad that was unveiled earlier this morning.
Barnes, a product of Sugarland, Texas, turned in a stellar freshman season that included a team best .341 batting average along with 19 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. Those numbers helped him become the Big 12's Freshman of the Year as voted upon the league coaches in late May.
Barnes along with teammate Jamodrick McGruder were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team last week by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
Barnes and McGruder are just the fourth and fifth freshman All-American in school history joining Josh Bard (1997), Brennan Burns (1998), Roger Kieschnick (2006) and Miles Morgan (2006).
