LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For the first time, the friends and family of Amanda Moreno speak out about her murder.
Maycie Badillo looked out the window of Garza's barber shop hoping her best friend and co-worker Amanda Moreno will walk in. Amanda was scheduled to work last weekend, and Maycie knew something was wrong when she received a text message. "She would always call me if she wasn't going to come in, she wouldn't text me and she didn't show up so I started calling her and texting her and she never text me or called me back," Badillo said.
The barber shop closed on Monday in her honor, and opened on Tuesday with flowers and a picture placed outside. The employees say they cooked dinner.
Amanda cut hair alongside Maycie for nearly five years. Her workspace was full of pictures of her children. Amanda's love for them is what prompted Martha Lopez of American State Bank to find a way to help. "We decided to open up a memorial account for her because she worked really hard for her children, and she has three beautiful children that are really going to miss her dearly and I just think this is a great thing that we can do for her and the community," Lopez said.
Donations can be made at any American State Bank location.
It is still unknown when or how Moreno died. Results from Tuesday's autopsy have not yet been released.
The family is holding a candlelight service at sun down on Thursday at her home, 2306 15th Street. Amanda's funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church.
