CLOVIS, NM (KCBD) - A Clovis man has been convicted of one count of aggravated burglary and one count of aggravated battery for biting off a man's nose.
Joey Maes, 36, has been sentenced to serve ten years in the New Mexico State Penitentiary.
The charges stem from April 19, 2009, when Maes was asked to leave a party in Clovis. Shortly after leaving the home, Maes came back and kicked in the front door, ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and began threatening the occupants.
A few people tried to stop Maes while another person called 911. Clovis Police Department responded to the call and several witnesses told police that one man tried to take the knife that Maes was holding and during the struggle Maes bit the end of the man's nose off. Officers found the nose laying on a cutting-board in the residence where the incident happened.
Once Maes finishes his prison term, he will be placed on an intensively supervised probation period of an additional three years.
