LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A former City of Lubbock employee faces more charges after he was accused of using your tax dollars to buy things for himself. Also, a new suspect from South Texas is now charged in the same crime.
John Cobb, 55, is already indicted for credit card abuse. The City fired Cobb as the landfill manager back in April. That is after his supervisors questioned some of the charges on his city issued credit card, including a storage shed and other building materials found at his home in south Lubbock County.
Police arrested Cobb last month. Now, he faces another charge of theft. Jerry Wilcox, 58, faces the same charge.
Investigators say he and Cobb submitted fake invoices to the city for welding services totaling nearly $64,000. Authorities say Wilcox used to live in Lubbock but he now lives in Brenham, Texas outside of Houston.
Court records state that Wilcox's estranged wife alerted authorities when she told her probation officer Wilcox and Cobb were committing fraud against the City of Lubbock.
