Airport runway safety project going to Phase II

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The city continues work that will make the Lubbock airport safer.

The city has gone out for bids on Phase II of a runway extension project. The east/west runway is, in a sense, being pushed to the east so that it no longer intersects with the north/south runway.

Phase II includes the demolition of three taxiways, construction of two taxiways, demolition of abandoned utility lines, and laying the foundation for the later construction of nearly 1,700 feet of runway.

Bid documents do not say how much Phase II will cost but the project overall will cost $60 million and airline passengers, not local taxpayers will foot the bill.
