Lubbock, TX(KCBD)- Exercise is not only good for your health, but a new study finds it may be a good way to treat alcohol dependence. At least it's worked in hamsters. Researchers used hamsters and their running wheels to test how exercise affected their alcohol consumption.
Researchers found the more the hamsters ran, the less alcohol they drank. On the other hand, the less active hamsters had a greater craving for alcohol, and drank more. Researchers say the exercise alters the chemicals in the brain the same way that alcohol and drugs do.
If the research proves true for humans, this means that exercise may be a way for addictions to be treated.
