TTU Gets New $7.5 Million Engineering Chair

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –  Texas Tech's effort to rise to a whole new level of national prominence continues to make progress. 

The university announced Wednesday that Craig A. Grimes will fill the $7.5 million Donovan Maddox Distinguished Engineering Chair.  The endowment is for solar energy in the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering starting in January of next year.
 
Grimes is currently a professor of electrical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Candidates for the Maddox chair were expected to have a national and international reputation in solar energy. 

Meanwhile, Texas Tech continues efforts to grow its student enrollment to 40,000 students per year by 2020, and Texas Tech continues its efforts to achieve the prestigious Tier One research university status.

A cold front will move through our area late tonight, shifting winds out of the north. Monday morning will be cool and breezy.
