Silent Wings Museum hosts summer "boot camp"

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Silent Wings Museum will host their two-part summer activity camps, Aviation Boot Camp I and II, in July.

The museum is home to the World War II Glider Program's advanced training and the camps are designed to introduce children to the daily life and training of a World War II glider pilot and soldier.

Children ages 8-12 will be enrolled as "cadets" and will participate in different activities that teach history, basic flight principles, navigation, military skills and teamwork.

The 2009 Summer Aviation Boot Camp was so successful, the museum added an additional camp, Aviation Boot Camp II.

Lisa Howe, Silent Wings Museum Education Coordinator, said she is glad they are able to offer a new program that will afford last year's cadets the chance to be involved again and learn more about the glider program.

Registration fee for each camp is $35 per child.

Contact Lisa Howe at 775-3059 or at lhowe@mylubbock.us for more registration information.
