LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbockites have strong feelings after KCBD NewsChannel 11 reported that a professor is in hot water.  Well placed sources say Professor Rod Hicks was instructing Texas Tech Health Sciences Center students via video teleconference this week.

After class was over he did not close the video feed and we're told students saw him surfing the Internet for sexually oriented material.  While the Texas Tech HSC has no comment except to say it's a "personnel matter," University Medical Center took action to have him removed as the Endowed Chair for the study of Patient Safety.

UMC put up the money for the endowed chair two years ago, and at the hospital's request the HSC agreed to remove Hicks Thursday and find another professor.

Meanwhile viewers have been reacting to Dr. Hicks' story on the KCBD NewsChannel 11 Facebook page.

Brandy says "Seriously, get some respect for yourself...and since you can't get that get some respect for your employer"

But Adeliade defends the professor saying, "This is absolutely ludicrous. There's no reason he should be under the scrutiny he is."

Hicks has not responded to our invitations for comment.
