The South Plains Food Bank is also asking for help to build up its food supply of canned foods and non-perishable items. So, they are asking that for the next week you leave those items by your mailbox for letter carriers to collect.
It's the 11th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and they're hoping for a record year. "We got 86,000 (pounds of food) last year, but this year we're gonna get 103,000 just because of the great citizens of Lubbock." said Eddie Odle, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Lubbock, Levelland, and Slaton letter carriers will be participating in the collection. All the food that is collected in each city will stay in that city.
