Missing autistic man found in Hale Center

Posted: Updated:

HALE CENTER, TX (KCBD) - Thirteen hours after he went missing, Shelton Martin from Hale Center has been found safe. Police tell KCBD NewsChannel 11 that he was found shortly after 1:00 p.m. in a vacant house near his home.

The Hale Center Police Department issued a missing person's alert after Shelton Martin, 26, disappeared from his home in the 500 block of East 3rd Street in Hale Center. Shelton went missing between 11 p.m. and midnight.

Authorities ordinarily wait 24 hours before issuing such an alert, but sped up the process because Shelton is autistic. His family says he has the mentality of an 8 to 10-year-old.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 is on the way to Hale Center to speak with Shelton's family.
