BROWNFIELD, TX (KCBD) - The statewide search for two escaped Terry County inmates is over.
David Lee Rodriguez, 35, was captured this afternoon in Brownfield and Cornelio Zepeda Delgado, 23, turned himself into authorities early Tuesday morning.
Rodriguez and Delgado escaped from the Terry County Jail early Monday morning through an air conditioning vent, into the ceiling and out through a plumbing closet.
At the time Delgado turned himself in Tuesday morning Rodriguez remained at large, but he was later was found in a house in the 1400 block of Hester Avenue in Brownfield. The Texas Rangers got a lead to where he might be and went to the home. "We arrived at that location and myself and a couple of the Rangers went in the front door. Rodriguez tried to slip out the back door and met my chief deputy and another Ranger and he surrendered without any problem," said Larry Gilbreath, Terry County Sheriff.
Rodriguez is charged with attempted murder and assault causing bodily injury to a 12-year-old girl, an incident that happened on May 23rd. KCBD NewsChannel 11 caught up with the victim's grandmother Tuesday afternoon after Rodriguez was captured. "Very happy. Very, very happy," said Susan Cruz.
Once again, both Delgado and Rodriguez are now back behind bars and have been both been charged with escape.
Delgado's bond is set at $25,000. Rodriguez will be arraigned Wednesday, and his bond will be set at that time.
