LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – If you haven't done this, you either have incredible parenting skills, or your kids just like to eat healthy stuff, but most of us have gotten our kids to eat veggies with a bribe. Nutritionist Jennifer Periral says that is a bribe that can backfire.
"It presents a lot of relationship with food issues. Children start to see the foods you want them to eat as yucky and the foods they're being rewarded with as special and more desirable," said Perira.
Instead, Perira suggests dressing up healthy food with a salad dressing or cheese, or puree fruits and veggies so you can sneak them into other dishes. If none of that works, she says just relax and hope your kids will learn to make better choices as they grow. She says we can subtly teach kids that fruits and veggies are the bad guys on the table.
