(NBC) - Alex has been downgraded to a tropical storm after slamming into the Mexico coast, but the storm's winds and rains are still pounding the area.
Texas' South Padre Island had prepared for the worst, but fared very well. There was some minor flooding on the island, but no serious wind damage or power outages.
Alex's rains turned Wednesday into the wettest June day on record in south Texas. There were doppler estimates of up to ten inches of rain in some locations.
More rain is expected Thursday, and residents have also been warned that tornados are a possibility.
