LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A West Texas math teacher was booked in the Midland County Jail for having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.

Robert Young, 41, teacher at Permian High School, was arrested at his home on Tuesday. In a probable cause statement, Young is accused of inappropriate touching and sending nude videos and photos of himself to an 18-year-old girl.

Even though she's considered an adult, under law, it's illegal for any educator to have a romantic relationship with a student.

The statement says Young would pick up the female, a 2010 Permian graduate, about three times a week. The report states that he would drive her around from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. and they would kiss and inappropriately touch one another. They also engaged in sexual communication on Facebook.

Young has worked with the Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) since 1992. He teaches Pre-AP Algebra II, and AP Calculus.

Officials with ECISD says Young is still an employee of the school district and that an education contract cannot be cancelled. Police began the investigation on June 17 after school officials received an anonymous tip. Young was placed on administrative leave on June 21, while police continued the investigation.

Young is facing a second-degree felony, which could result two to 20 years and a fine up to $10,000. He remains jailed on a $20,000 bond.
