LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – While this weekend is a three day holiday for most people, United Blood Services is open Friday, Saturday and even Monday, because there is an urgent need for blood, especially O negative.

So, UBS is calling this the Freedom Drive and they're trying to make it worth your time to take time out and donate blood. "Everybody who comes out they get a special patriotic T-shirt, they get registered to possibly win a dinner at Carino's and movie money at Tinseltown, an evening out basically that we're giving away everyday and then we're going to give away an Ipod touch at the end," said Les Long, the Director of UBS.  "But the big story is that we're not really able to fill all the orders at the hospital right now, so there couldn't be a better time for us to be doing a special drive like this."

UBS is open Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's closed on Sunday, but will resume normal Monday hours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Remember walk-ins are welcome, or you can make an appointment, by calling 797-6804.
