Holiday weekend weather could lead to flooding in areas

LUBBOCK, TX(KCBD)- Tropical rains are making their way onto the South Plains this morning. The moisture is a result of what was hurricane Alex. The pattern does not favor any severe weather, in fact it is unlikely, but it does favor heavy rain which could lead to flooding. This will be more of a concern over the holiday weekend as rain totals increase.

Today scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with locally heavy rain and cooler temperatures. Highs for today will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Tonight there will be scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. There is an 80 percent chance of rain overnight with low temperatures in  the 60s.

Saturday there will be scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with locally heavy rain possible. Chances for measurable rain will be about 70 percent, with high temperatures in the low 80s.

Showers will linger in the area for the July Fourth Holiday with a 50 percent chance of measurable precipitation and high temperatures in the low 80s.

A slight chance for rain will kick off the new work week, along with cloudy skies and a high in the upper 80s.
