Fashion statement may cause loss of eyesight

By Karin McCay| email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A fashion inspired by Lady Gaga could be damaging to others who try to imitate the look. It all started with the huge doll like eyes the pop star has in her "Bad Romance" music video.

While Gaga's eyes were computer-generated, the concern is you can get this similar look in real life. With special contact lenses called "circle lenses" and easy access from the Internet to order the lenses, eye doctors are concerned young girls wanting that look are asking for trouble. "You really need professional who's trained in taking care of these contact lenses and fitting you properly for them before you start trying them.", says Dr. Singh.  Dr. Singh also adds, "It can cause scratches on the cornea and worst case scenario, they can cause ulcers and even blindness."

Without any type of regulations on the contact lenses, eye doctors are very worried that this fashion statement can cause damage that can't be fixed.
