LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Another growing problem on the South Plains, especially out in the county, is snakes.
Standing water is forcing snakes, including rattlesnakes, to move to drier areas near homes and people. Authorities say you need to keep your lawn mowed in order to see them. If you do happen to get bit, you need to get to the hospital immediately.
Wendi McNabb, the director of UMC's Trauma and Burn Program, says snake bite victims should not try to suck the venom out or ice it down. UMC has seen four rattlesnake bites so far this year.
