LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Schools across the country are struggling with next year's budget. Lubbock ISD has to make up for a $2-million drop in revenue, but they promise no teachers will be laid off.
"The American Association of School Administrators is projecting that 275,000 teachers will be laid off in some respect. I do feel like we're fortunate to not be in that position," LISD Chief Administrative Officer for Administrative Services Dr Berhl Robertson said.
Robertson says the school board met Thursday to discuss the budget. The administration has been evaluating unfilled positions to determine if they can leave them empty without hurting instruction. So far they've found 185 spots to leave unfilled to help balance the budget.
