Death Toll Rises in Immigrant Smuggling Case

Just days after a tractor-trailer rig crammed with dozens of illegal aliens was found near Victoria, another victims dies late Friday afternoon.

17 people were found dead inside the trailer, another died that day at the hospital, and the latest death on Friday bring the death toll to 19.

Also on Friday, 48 of the survivors were transported to Houston, where they'll be in the custody of federal authorities until the investigation is over. The truck driver in this case is facing federal immigration charges. Authorities are also looking for at least three other suspects.

According to U.S. Immigration officials close to 150,000 illegal immigrants cross into the U.S. from Mexico each year.
