LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There is further evidence in local public records that a Lubbock institution is dying or perhaps already dead. If all goes as planned, what used to be Austin's Korner along the Strip will soon become a tire sales and service shop.
Last year Lubbock voters approved off-premise alcohol. The Strip at 98th and Tahoka highway had for years been a near monopoly on package alcohol. The bright lights at night led to its nickname of "little Las Vegas." But those lights are dim now, with package liquor or beer sales scattered throughout town instead of concentrated at the Strip.
According to public records the new tire shop at the former Austin's Korner location will cater to large trucks and trailers.
