IDALOU, TX (KCBD) - Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62/82 and F.M. 400. The truck was hit by a semi-truck, which was pushed into a third vehicle waiting to go through the intersection.
Driver of the pickup, 16-year-old Justin Harth, was updated to good from serious condition Tuesday night. He was rushed to the hospital by Aerocare. The semi-truck driver, 48-year-old Terry Keeler was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday night at University Medical center.
A witness spoke to KCBD NewsChannel 11 at the scene. "He said he was just coming down 62/82 to Idalou and he was slowing up because the speed limit was lower and he said he saw the young man look right at him and he went across and he said I knew I couldn't stop but I had on my brakes and he just skidded, I mean there's skid marks way back and it tore up the asphalt trying to stop."
Texas Department of Public Safety told us the 18-wheeler was trying to slow down.
"He attempted to slow down but the young man pulled right out in front of him so he collided with the pickup truck and that forced both vehicles to the side of the road," said DPS trooper John Bures.
The third vehicle was driven by 51-year-old Maria Alvarez. She has been released from the hospital.
As always, drivers are urged to pay close attention to the road. Bures offered his advice "Just slow down just a little bit and make sure you're not messin with a cell phone or radio or anything like that and make sure you're seeing all the road signs that are coming up."
