The accused killer of a former Lubbock woman has been sentenced to die in a separate case. Twenty-three-year-old Sheldon Ward was convicted of the kidnap, rape and slaying of a 28-year-old woman. During the trial, prosecutors called five witnesses to link Ward to the death of 22-year-old Rachel Urnosky.
Urnosky was raped and murdered in her Fort Worth apartment in December of 2001. Ward was already in the Tarrant County Jail in connection with another murder with similar circumstances. Police made the connection that both victims were young, single women then further investigation revealed that they were shot by the same gun.
