Good news for Lubbock taxpayers is bad news in Dickens County. For several years Lubbock housed overflow prisoners at the Dickens County Correctional Facility near Spur. However, earlier this month Lubbock County held the ribbon cutting for the new and larger county jail north of Lubbock. As of Friday Lubbock still has more than 130 prisoners in Dickens County but they are being moved back as time goes on.
According to the Texas Spur newspaper that means more than 50 people will be losing their jobs in Dickens County. The jail still holds federal prisoners so there still will be some correctional officers there. Only making matters worse, Dickens County recently lost overflow prisoners from the Houston area.
