LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Two former postal carriers were in Lubbock federal court last week.  Candace Keltz Gutmeir, 26, was sentenced to five years probation, $40 restitution and a $1,000 fine.  She pleaded guilty in May to one count of Delay Or Destruction Of Mail.

Gutmeir admits in court records that she opened a letter belonging to a girl in northwest Lubbock with a return address of "Nana & Papaw" in Fort Worth, taking $40 cash out of the envelope.

Also this past week Carla Rene Rodriguez admits Misappropriation Of Postal Funds.  She admits in court records that from July to early November of last year she under-reported the value of postal money orders.  In simple terms she was skimming money from the sale of money orders.

When confronted by investigators, she admitted taking $6,187.09 for her personal use because her husband was unemployed.  Rodriguez agrees to pay back the money and she'll be sentenced at a later date to no more than one year in federal prison.
