Clovis Highway accident turns fatal after Shallowater woman gets hit by car

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Gloria Gomez, 59, of Shallowater died after a car hit her around 9:20 Monday morning. Authorities say she pulled over along the Highway 84, near the intersection of Frankford Avenue, got out of the truck, and while she was walking around, a car hit her.

"A witness said it looked like she was checking on something in the back of the truck or picking something up off the ground," says Cpl. John Gonzalez with the Department of Public Safety.

Gomez was air-lifted to Covenant Medical Center where she died. The force of the crash forced her pickup from the shoulder into the center median. The driver who hit her, 28-year-old Clifton Newell of Lubbock, has not been charged, but they're still investigating.
