Tahoka teen awarded for bravery

Posted:

TAHOKA, TX (KCBD) - Tahoka's volunteer firefighters aren't the only heroes in the community; one 14-year-old boy was recently honored for his bravery.

Daniel Aleman attends the Four-County Special Services Program in Brownfield that serves special-needs children. Several weeks ago their school bus was almost back to Tahoka when smoke began pouring from the hood.

The driver immediately pulled over and, without being asked, Daniel sprung into action - escorting the younger passengers off the bus. He then helped watch over them until parents could be notified to come pick up their children. "It means everything to him because he is a child with special needs. It makes me feel like I'm a good mother. Like I've done the best I can to teach him his morals," says Daniel's mom Debbie Gay.

Brownfield ISD presented Daniel with an award for bravery - that designates Daniel a hero and honors him for his distinguished courage.
