LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech women's golfer Beverly Mendoza became the second Lady Raider to qualify for the USGA Women's Amateur Championship last week by firing a five-over 76 at the Green Gables Country Club in Denver, Colo.
Mendoza joins teammate Kim Kauffman at the Women's Amateur Championship that will be run Aug. 9-13 at the Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. Her qualifying round was good enough to tie for fourth in the tournament and was only one shot off the lead.
A native of the Philippines, Mendoza experienced a successful freshman campaign, playing in six spring tournaments, while posting one top 20 finish. She was also instrumental in Tech's NCAA Regional appearance with an opening-round 70 to begin the tournament.
