2006 fire destroys oldest church in Brownfield

Posted: Updated:

BROWNFIELD, TX (KCBD) - Just more than six years ago, a massive fire reduced Brownfield's oldest church to mere ashes. The blaze was so intense that smoke could be seen as far away as Lubbock. Firefighters tried to save the Brownfield Church of Christ.

The cause of the June 2004 fire was never determined. It was a tragic loss for the community, but it only inspired them to rebuild. In 2006, after raising $2.7 million, and waiting more than a year on construction, the congregation finally had a place to call home.
