LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Southcrest Christian School held a special open house Tuesday to show off their new facility at Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
The two denominations teamed up to expand the school. Principal Linda Merriot explained, Southcrest has been growing steadily and they were running out of room. At the same time, Cumberland was looking for a group to use their activity center, which was originally built to be a school.
Discussions got underway and both churches agreed it was a great solution. "As we met with people here, it just became clear that the two churches could join together," says Principal Linda Merriott with Southcrest Christian School.
"It was obvious from the start that this would be a great, great ministry of two congregations to provide Christian education at an affordable price for the kids here in the community," says Tom Martin with Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
The Cumberland school will house pre-k through second graders, and third through tenth grade will be able to expand at the Southcrest School. Southcrest also plans to add eleventh and twelfth grads in the next two years.
