LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock hosts a jubilee celebration Wednesday from 10 AM to 3 PM for the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS turns 75 years old, and, as part of the celebration, officers on motorcycles are on a statewide tour of Texas cities including Lubbock.
Riders are expected to arrive in the 1300 block of Mac Davis Lane at 9:30 AM. A portion of Mac Davis Lane will be closed to vehicle traffic during most of the day Wednesday. Historic items will be on display including DPS uniform items from the 1930's and a 1984 Mustang patrol car. Texas Rangers will be on horseback, and parents are encouraged to bring cameras to get pictures of their kids with the Rangers.
The memorial motorcycle riders will bring a special DPS Diamond Jubilee flag that will be flown for the event. To be honored are all 83 DPS officers who have died in the line of duty.
The Lubbock DPS Driver License office will be open for most business. However, there will be no driving tests on Wednesday.
