400 years of paintings inside SPC Fine Arts Building

LEVELLAND, TX (KCBD) - The land that South Plains College sits on was once part of the Post family ranch. Today, you can find a piece of Post history inside the school.

The Fine Arts building hoses eight 18th to 20th Century oil paintings that Post's daughter, Marjorie Merriweather Post, loaned and later gifted to the college between 1965 and 1973.

"400 years of painting history that our students have been able to enjoy and also the community, been about to enjoy it's a little treasure tucked away here in West Texas," says Steven John, Vice President of Institutional Advances at South Plains College.

On the back of the 'Catherine the Great' painting is an old label saying it had been in the collection of a Russian Prince in the mid 1700's.
